When the forums misbehave: Your guide to reporting Community bugs

🎯 Before you start: what we can (and can’t) help with

TL;DR – Forums being weird? Here’s what to do

If something is broken on Atlassian Community, you have two main options:

  1. Post a comment on our dedicated bug-report thread, and
optionally report your own post to moderators so it’s seen faster.

  2. Email us at communitymanagers@atlassian.com if you prefer a private route.

Read on for more detail on each option and what to include in your report.

We can’t fix issues inside Atlassian products like Jira, Confluence, Bitbucket, Trello, etc.
If you’ve found a bug in an Atlassian product please visit our public bug tracker at jira.atlassian.com to see if it’s already reported. You can watch or vote on any matching issue.

This guide is all about how to report forums bugs.

Now let’s get to it!

Hi everyone! I’m Silke, one of the Community Managers here at Atlassian.

Sometimes the forums wake up and choose chaos: links refuse to cooperate, buttons peace out, and layouts stretch into cursed shapes no designer intended.

When that happens, your bug reports are gold. This guide walks you through the easiest ways to tell us “hey, something’s not right,” so we can investigate and loop in the right team behind the scenes.

Thanks for helping us keep the forums running smoothly for everyone. đź’™

Start here: share what’s broken on our bug‑report thread

For most people, the easiest option is to post a comment on our dedicated bug‑report thread in the Community Announcements group, which we actively monitor for forums bugs.

When you post, here is what we need from you:

  • A short description of what’s happening on the forums

  • What you expected to happen instead

  • A link to the affected forums page or thread

  • Screenshots and/or error messages (if any). Screenshots really help to ensure we are all looking at the same place.

  • Your browser + OS (for UI issues)

Our Community team and moderators keep an eye on this space and log issues for our internal teams. We’ll like your post once we’ve seen it, and we’ll reply when we need more information or have an update to share.

Want to make sure we see it fast? Tap 'Report to moderators'

If you’ve already posted about a forums bug or issue, you can use “Report to moderators” on your own post to make sure it lands in our moderation queue.

Every post and comment in the forums has a “Report to moderators” option in the menu. To use it:

  1. Go to your own post or comment about the issue

  2. Open the ••• menu and click Report to moderators

  3. Briefly describe what’s wrong (e.g. “bug report about Community UI,” “my post isn’t displaying,” “reply button doesn’t work”)

  4. Submit the report

This sends your report directly into our moderation queue, which is monitored by the Community team. It’s a good choice when you’ve already posted about a forums bug and want to be sure we see it quickly.

If you don’t want to post about the issue publicly at all, skip this step and use the email option instead (see below).

Prefer a private route? Email the Community team

Not feeling like posting? Email works too.

communitymanagers@atlassian.com

We’ll review your message, ask any follow-up questions if needed, and route the details to the right team internally. Once again, this email address does not go to the product teams, and you will be redirected to jira.atlassian.com for any product feedback.

Can I log a ticket or track this somewhere?

Forums-specific bugs are not handled through the standard product support portal.

For now, the options above are the most reliable ways to get forums issues in front of the right people.

Behind the scenes: what happens to your report

When you flag an issue to us, the Community team will:

  1. Review and reproduce the problem where possible

  2. Log it internally for our engineering/platform teams, if it’s a bug

  3. Follow up with you in the same channel you used to report it when we have updates or workarounds

Your reports genuinely help us keep the forums healthy and improve the experience for everyone, so thank you for taking the time to share them with us.

Hi @SilkeS

Thanks for these updates and for the new, dedicated bug-report thread!  One quick question...I recall an earlier thread which described significant community outages would appear on the status pages: https://support.status.atlassian.com/

Will such outages still appear there?  When such an outage occurs we may not be able to access the bug-report thread.

Kind regards
Bill

To add to @Bill Sheboy's request, there has been previous discussions about placing a banner across the top of the community when there is an issue that is significantly affected community.atlassian.com performance. Surly if every page I ever visit I can be prompted to answer whether it was helpful, this can be repurposed when there is an outage.

Thank you @Bill Sheboy and @Andy Gladstone . I have started an internal discussion about this and I will see what we can do here.
